Human Resources

I’m working in the HR department. It is very important within a company. I perform a multitude of tasks, but my main task is to hire employees. Filling vacant positions in a company can be difficult, but I’m the experts of it. When employees want to negotiate their vacation, salary, compensation package, and their benefits, you must come see me. Working in human resources can be a leg work, but I love meeting new people. What I like the most about my job is to do the background check for potential employees. What I don’t like is that I can’t leave of absence. I need to be available most of the time for the employees. What about you, what is your job?

Sexual Harassment

I was at work when I experienced sexual harassment. The perpetrator of these inappropriate acts was a man about my age. At first, I thought he was flirting with me. But quickly his comments towards me began to be more and more misconduct. One day, he touched my butt in the hallway. I never thought I would be the recipient of such a disrespectful act. So, I went to the human resources department for help. Human resources met my perpetrator to deter him from doing it again. But unfortunately, it got worse, and I had to quit. What about you, what would you have done?

Office Politics

I'm an employer and at my company office politics can create a lot of hinder and problems between my employees. Sometimes, they undermine about each other and, I need to take place between them before they kill each others. I need to make sure that my staff does not gossip or even withholding with each other. I often get sucked up in the middle of an argument between two of my employees, but I managed to solve all the office politics at my company. Do you think they can be consequences for an organization if people act in a self-serving manner?

Volunteering Abroad

I admit, at first, I was skeptical to volunteer abroad. First, I didn’t see the main purpose of volunteering. I’m a student and my studies' fees are very high. So, at the time I preferred to spend my summer working in a dead-end job and making money instead of working for free and still be in-dept. But I changed my mind when my friend volunteered in Mexico. He explained to me all the advantages and the disadvantages about volunteering abroad. The main disadvantage is the cultural choc. It’s the disorientation felt by a person faced with an unfamiliar country, language, or culture. The main advantage is the possibility of learning a new language. Knowing several languages are an invaluable gift. This knowledge can lead someone to receive premium wages in his country because it’s a quality that employers often look for and which is rare. So, with all that information I really look forward to volunteering abroad next summer, and I think I’m going to volunteer in South Africa....
