Volunteering Abroad

I admit, at first, I was skeptical to volunteer abroad. First, I didn’t see the main purpose of volunteering. I’m a student and my studies' fees are very high. So, at the time I preferred to spend my summer working in a dead-end job and making money instead of working for free and still be in-dept. But I changed my mind when my friend volunteered in Mexico. He explained to me all the advantages and the disadvantages about volunteering abroad. The main disadvantage is the cultural choc. It’s the disorientation felt by a person faced with an unfamiliar country, language, or culture. The main advantage is the possibility of learning a new language. Knowing several languages are an invaluable gift. This knowledge can lead someone to receive premium wages in his country because it’s a quality that employers often look for and which is rare. So, with all that information I really look forward to volunteering abroad next summer, and I think I’m going to volunteer in South Africa....

Internships

I was very overwhelmed when I got accepted to do an on-the-job training in a law firm which is in my studied field. So, I got the chance to do an internship, and I was very excited because it is a foot in the door for me to become a lawyer. This exciting situation will be like a test drive because it will give me the chance to learn the ropes and to know if it’s really the job that I want to be doing for the rest of my life. Finally, This internship will come in handy when it would be time to find my real job in the law words. So, what about you, how can internships help you find a job?

On the Job Training

I started my OJT in a hair salon. I first choose this career because of the wage that hairdresser can make with tips. The employee Nathaly is my trainer. I have been her trainee for two weeks, but she manages to show me already all the ins-and-outs of her job. She is a very good hairdresser, but I noticed that she has a bias against men. She always refuses to take new customers if it happens to be men, but she will take new customers if they are women. To be a hairdresser you must work occasionally on the weekend but despite this drawback I really think I will be happy in this profession.

How to do Well at School

To do well at school I must put thought in my study. I must manage my time to be able to study at home and to get enough sleep at night. But to do well at school doesn’t mean straight A’s all the time. For me, school it is about learning and accumulate some knowledge. To do well at school I ask several questions in class, though it’s often making me nervous. But asking many questions during class appends to be easier to pull off in oral presentation over time. So, this is how I managed to do well at school.

Political glossary

Political glossary Hello, my name is Éléonore. I have been in international studies since September 2021. My topic is about politics because it is one of the main subjects in my program. This glossary will help me to understand political terms. Sometimes my teacher gives us English text to read, and I found it very hard sometimes to understand them. To find the words I simply used Google and Wikipedia. I also think that this glossary will help me a lot for next year since I'm going to university in law Ballot noun A ballot is a document used to record the choices made by those entitled to vote. Example: Scargill hoped for a "domino effect", to be promoted if necessary by the type of mass picketing which had been perfected a decade earlier, and the National Executive supported him; only three members voted for a proposal that the demand for a national strike be put to a national BALLOT. fr: Scrutin ...
